ABOUT CHERISE WOLAS
I'm a novelist who started writing so young that my first stories were in crayon. After graduating from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU with a BFA, my first job was as a story and development editor for a famous film producer. After receiving my JD, I practiced law in Los Angeles and New York. Then I founded a film company. Through it all, I kept writing. My critically acclaimed debut novel, The Resurrection of Joan Ashby, was called “breathtaking” by Library Journal and Booklist, a “powerhouse debut novel,” by Entertainment Weekly, “extraordinary” by the Daily Mail, UK, and “completely captivating,” by BookPage. It was longlisted for the 2019 International Dublin Literary Award, the 2018 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Debut Fiction Prize, named a New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice, a New York Times Paperback Row Selection, an Indie Next Great Reads Selection in Hardcover and Paperback, and a Best Novel, Best Debut Novel, and Top 10 First Novel by Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and other outlets. Already published in the UK, Poland, and France, it is being translated into Turkish, Hebrew, Chinese, and other foreign languages. My second critically acclaimed novel, The Family Tabor, has been called “a piercing and multilayered portrayal,” (Publishers Weekly), “brilliantly executed” (ABA Indie Next List), “compelling” (Jewish Week), with “gorgeous intensity” (Library Journal) and “gorgeous writing” (Booklist), and “a hypnotic generational saga, elegant, cerebral and finely tuned. Nearly pitch perfect and a supple and engrossing read.” (Chicago Review of Books). The Family Tabor is a triple Indie Next Great Read Selection in Hardcover, Paperback, and for Reading Groups. Named a New York Times Paperback Row Selection, it has been optioned by Legendary Entertainment. I live in New York City with my husband, and a feline named Henry the Lovebug. I was named one of the “11 Women to Watch in 2018” by BookPage. I'm at work on a new novel. |
